The Little Green BATS is the first and so far only Dutch team in the 3D simulation league. We are a group of students from the department of AI at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Our team name is derived from the fact that the first 3D agents in the league were balls and from the very philosophical observation that Balls Are Truly Spheres (BATS). This abbrevia- tion reminded us of our favorite song ’Little Green Bag’ by The George Baker Selection and so the whole team name was born.

The First and Second round

The first round this morning went pretty much as expected, we lost to the boldhearts and robocanes, and beat robopub, UT Austin Villa was a bit stronger than we had hoped for and beat us with 1:0. In the first round only the last team dropped out, which was robopub, so we went on to the second round.

The Seeding Rounds

Today we should have had the seeding rounds and the first round. But, some
people arrived a little late at the Robocup venue, and a lot of the teams had
some startup issues. As a result of this the seeding rounds took a lot more
time than planned and the first round has been postponed untill tomorrow.

When we uploaded our binary on sunday afternoon we were all a little stressed
because it had to be done before 23:00 and we still had a lot of work to do, so
nobody noticed that we uploaded the binary from ciaran's laptop, which is a

Team picture and more

This morning was the opening ceremony for the RoboCup 2010. Afterwards we went on stage to get a nice new team picture.
I also uploaded a picture of one of the huge buildings of Singapore. It is actually three towers with a ship shaped bridge connecting the top of the towers. You can see the palm trees on top. Lots of towers here have floors with gardens every ten stories or so.
Now we are working hard to update our program so we will make it through the first round, which is played tomorrow.
Of course we will give an update on our results tomorrow!

More on our first day Singapore

After our arrival in Singapore we discovered our (as said before) very good hostel and it's neighbourhood. Right now we are on the hostel's wireless internet. It took some time to get is all working, but now it is and the guys from the hostel are even getting us our own router, so soon we will have our private BATS internet connection. Yesterday evening, we had something to eat at a nearby Chinese restaurant. Afterwards we took a stroll towards a pub. On the way we passed a Arabic neighbourhood and saw (and heard) a beautiful mosque (I think it is called Sultan's Mosque).

Pictures from Singapore

Here are the first few pictures from us going to Singapore.
The first is a group picture on Schiphol Airport. The second is our room in the hostel with all our gear set up. From today we share the room with the Boldhearts team.
Our hostel is amazingly good. Very clean, very helpfull staff and people who watch WC South Africa all day long. :-P

Arrival in Singapore

We have arrived in Singapore, and have spend our afternoon resting and taking showers after sitting in a plane for about 15 hours. Now (22:20 local time) we have had dinner and a beer and have explored some of the city. The weather isn't as bad as predicted, most of the rain has evaporated before it reaches the ground and although we are all kind of sweaty the heat is endurable. Tomorrow we will start working on our code again, but now we will try to get some of the sleep we missed on the plane.

Almost in Singapore - Thanks to you all!
